About the Examination Process
The JEE Advanced is a two-stage examination designed for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other premier institutions.
Plan of Examination
- The JEE Advanced examination consists of two mandatory papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each with a duration of three hours.
- Both papers test candidates on three core subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and are designed to assess a deep understanding of concepts.
- The question types include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions, and Matching and Comprehension-based Questions. This variety ensures a comprehensive evaluation of the aspirants’ problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and conceptual clarity across all subjects.
Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate must be among the top 2.5 lakh candidates (including all categories) in JEE Main.
- A candidate must have a minimum age of 25 years. The upper age limit is relaxable, maximum of 5 years for SC/STs and OBC candidates.
Number of Attempts
A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.

- Application Fee varies by category (approx. ₹2800 for general candidates; discounts for reserved categories and female candidates).
Admission Process
- Qualify in JEE Advanced: Secure a rank in the merit list.
