About the Examination Process
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a competitive exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in India.
Plan of Examination
- NEET is a pen-and-paper-based test (PBT), conducted in offline mode.
- The exam lasts for 3 hours and consists of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology).
- Each subject has 50 questions, adding up to a total of 180 questions. These are multiple-choice questions, where candidates must select the correct answer from four options.
- The marking scheme awards 4 marks for each correct answer, while an incorrect answer results in a penalty of -1 mark. Unanswered questions neither earned nor deduct marks.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission, with an upper age limit of 25 years, which is extended to 30 years for candidates belonging to reserved categories.
- Educationally, candidates must have completed their 12th grade or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects, securing a minimum of 50% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates).
- Additionally, both Indian nationals and foreign nationals are eligible to apply for NEET, although foreign nationals must meet specific conditions set by the regulatory authorities.
Number of Attempts
There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET, as long as candidates meet the age and educational qualification criteria. They can appear as many times as they wish, provided they satisfy the eligibility requirements.
